Whatcha Eating?

Every once in a while, in relation to my weight-loss, somewhere, someone will ask me what I typically eat in a given day.  Related, here’s what I ate today:

  • Breakfast
Two packets/bowls of Quaker Lower Sugar Maple & Brown Sugar Instant Oatmeal with Wheat Germ and Golden Flax Seed added
Cup of Tea without milk. (I never put milk in my tea.)
  • Post-Breakfast, after a workout at the gym
Spoonful of organic peanut butter & a banana
    Cup of Green Tea
  • Lunch
Three ounces of cooked ground turkey with a slice of reduced fat Swiss cheese, spinach,
and tomato on a Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thins Bagel
    Apple
    Cup of grapes
Cup of Black Tea – decaffeinated
  • Early afternoon snack (around 2:30 pm)
    Large orange
  • Late afternoon snack (around 5 pm)
Apple with a cup of Black Tea – decaffeinated
  • Dinner
Salmon burger with spinach on Thomas Whole Wheat Bagel Thins Bagel
Bowl of asparagus and leek soup
    Cup of lima beans
Cup of Black Tea – decaffeinated
  • Evening snack (one hour after dinner)
Weight Watchers Vanilla Round Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Snack later in the evening (while watching TV)
    One dozen almonds

In terms of breakfast, today was pretty standard for me – oatmeal (with wheat germ and flax) when I wake up and then a piece of fruit between that and lunch. Since I had a workout today, I added some peanut butter. And, I usually have two cups of tea in morning – and try to make one of them Green Tea. (Actually, today, for some reason, I was heavy on the Black Tea. That’s not typical. Most of the time I have a balance of Black Tea, Green Tea, and water during the day. But, I was running cold today and was more interested in tea than water to offset that.)

Lunch here was extremely typical of what I eat for that meal each day – the turkey sandwich with veggies, on minimal but healthy bread, with two servings of fruit. I used to go one serving of fruit and something snacky like a Vitamuffin Brownie or Chocolate Muffin in the past – but not so much anymore.

The afternoon snacks today were not typical – an orange and an apple. Usually it’s some combo of an apple, then a banana later and then, even later, some carrots. But, I skipped the carrots today. That’s rare. I usually almost always have some orange veggies every day.

Dinner was not standard either here. That was a bit of a rush job. Typically I would have some lean protein and a large mix of veggies – and water – followed by a cup of decaf tea.

The post-dinner evening snack was pretty typical. I’m working towards getting out of the habit of eating something as processed as a Weight Watchers Vanilla Round Ice Cream Sandwich. But, for now, I’m eating that more often than I like to confess.  But, on a positive note, the almonds are standard for me this days in terms of a late night snack – and at least those are good for me!
