This is workout #41 for 2013. If I had stuck to my plan, it would have been workout #131. Think I missed a few?
It’s been 3 weeks since my last run – or any exercise for that matter. During this time, I have spent too much time on the computer and lying around the house doing nothing. Worse, I have fallen into the habit of mindless eating – snacking on nuts, chips and cookies (and not eating enough fruits and veggies).
Granted, my hay fever, which is usually not a summer problem, has been off the charts bad lately. I wake up every morning feeling like I have a bad cold. And, it’s a challenge to get out of bed and start moving around.
This morning, I did get off my ass and tried to go for a run. What a disaster! It was very humid out there – but, not hot, by my standards.
How did I do? I went 1.36 miles in 11 minutes and 33 seconds and then I had to stop. I just flat out gave up. I had no zip or drive. The pace, all things considered (8.5 minute mile) was not all that bad. That’s about where I would expect to be, for me. But, the fact that I could not run 3 miles, or even two, without stopping, is pathetic.
After that, I walked for a good stretch until I could control my breathing. Then, I did a run/walk/run thing for another .72 miles in 7 minutes and 30 seconds. (That’s a 10+ minute mile…very slow.)
I need to get myself into gear. There’s three races coming up that interest me. One in 60 days, another in 67 days, and then one in 110 days. But, I would not dare register for them at this point.
