I have been feeling old lately.
And, twelve weeks from today, I will turn 50-years old. Yes, in 84 days, I will hit the half-century mark.
Since I started my back to health journey in June of 2006, one of my goals has been “to be in the best shape of my life when I am fifty years old.” And, I still think that I can make this happen.
Basically, I need to do the following:
- Lose five pounds and get my weight down to the range of about 172 pounds.
- Get myself back to the point where I can consistently run a 5K distance without stopping in the range of about 26 minutes or less.
- Have my Body Fat % be at 13% or less.
If I can achieve all these goals, I will be “Fit at Fifty” (in my mind).
So, I have 84 days to make this happen. What’s the plan?
Well, my latest plan is to start eating better (which always helps) and to start exercising more (and better).
I have not been able to run 3.1 miles without stopping at some point, consistently, in the last three months. Maybe that was because of the June-July-August heat? But, now it’s September. So, that excuse is gone.
I have not been to the gym in the last 26 days. And, I have not been consistently going to the gym for a while now. This is another area where I need to make a major improvement.
Basically, my plan now is to do some form of exercise everyday – with no excuses. Even if it’s just doing push-ups, pull-ups and crunches in the morning until exhaustion, that’s something. And, it’s a hell of a lot better than nothing.
It starts today and goes for the next 84 days. And, let’s see where I am in 12 weeks. For sure, I will be fifty at that time. Will I be “in the best shape of my life?” Well, if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.
