Good for you tippismom! Take it easy at first. Remember, any exercise is better than no exercise.

Yes, I lost the weight first before I started to run and to get back to the gym on a regular basis.

I am a firm believer that there's a difference between being thin and being fit.

When I lost all the weight, through WW, I was very skinny. (So much so that family members were starting to get on my case.) But, I could not run for more than 60 seconds without being out of breath. Meanwhile, a friend of mine, who is at least 40 pounds overweight, went out and ran the NYC Marathon.

See the difference between being thin and fit?

So, I decided that it was time to get into better shape. And, that's when I started.

And, by the way, it's much easier to exercise without carrying the 60-70 pounds that I used to have on me!

Good luck again - and thanks for the birthday wishes.

Hi Steve. Yes, you inspire. Actually, so much so, that I signed up for a year at the gym this am. I haven't exercised my entire life, so this will be an experience. It would be nice if I could look at the gym as you appear to look at your routine. Had you lost all your weight before you trained to run? BTW, wishing you a happy upcoming 50th!

Hi there. Just ran across your site and wanted to mention how inspiring it is. I'm 54/female who has lost 62 pounds in less than 6 months on WW, with approximately 30 or so to go. I'll be checking back here on a regular basis. THANKS!

Always good to hear from a BCBer!

Congrats on getting started and doing a quarter-mile. It all starts somewhere!

Best of luck with the WW journey. You know you can do it - because you already have! Now it's just a matter of sticking with it. Take it one day at a time, and you will get it done.

I decided a few weeks ago I would be a runner too- yesterday I ran my first 1/4 mile without stopping. My weight loss story is similar to yours as far as the busting ass/starving bit then gaining it back goes... plus a year long go at WW where I lost 64 pounds, then went off program and gained it al(most) all back a few years later. Now I'm starting over, blogging it, and exercising 5 to 6 days a week and working on being a runner!

P.s. I found you via an old BCB forum post. :)
